Big Blue Eyes is the solo recording project behind 19-year-old Ryan Smart, a Sunshine Coast multi-instrumentalist and DIY producer. A die-hard music fan from an early age, Ryan blends his heavy influence of Australian indie-rock staples with his knack for groove and hooks, to bring his own fresh and invigorating sound to the table. Nifty bass lines, driving guitars, and uniquely chill yet driven vocal style all comes together in his DIY recordings, that are entirely self-engineered and produced.
Big Blue Eyes latest offering ‘Shoelaces’ is a tender song that explores the feelings associated with a lover leaving you for someone else. The heavy metaphor drives the emotional weight of the track, combined with its spacious instrumentals and a rushing chorus with psychedelic undertones reminiscent of Pink Floyd & The Beatles. With an intense emotional outro to cap it off, ‘Shoelaces’ showcases Ryan’s raw honesty and a softer emotional side to his songwriting. Off the back of the release of ‘Granted’ and ‘Japan’, ‘Shoelaces’ is the third single from an upcoming debut album that Big Blue Eyes is set to release on July 9th.
